stunning afropunk-inspired painting series captures the essence of a movement
Sylvia Maier is a New York based artist whose work is influenced by wrestling with identity as a biracial child growing up in the city. Having drawn since the age of 7, Maier has perfected a figurative portrait style, often creating galleries of subjects found in one particular location or setting.
Her latest is a series on AFROPUNK festival-goers, capturing the essence and style that have composed the dynamic movement. Check out some of the paintings below, which will be part of an exhibit in Chelsea this February (find out more here!)
