In 2003, when Tatiane Gois was just 14-years-old, she realized just by talking to her friends that sexual violence against young girls like her was way more prevalent than she imagined. It was then that the young feminist came up with the idea to form the band Útero Punk (Útero meaning uterus), to both combat that lack of acceptance of women and girls in the punk scene and implement the genre’s legacy of resistance to fight for all women’s issues. Using punk music, Útero Punk takes on violence against women, including domestic and sexual violence, to empower women to create their own societies outside of oppression.
