Tribeca Enterprises and CHANEL have just recently concluded their 3rd annual “Through Her Lens”: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program and have named Nikyatu Jusu and R. Shanea Williams as the recipients of a full production funding for their film ‘Suicide by Sunlight’. A vampire flick, ‘Suicide by Sunlight’ follows a day-walking Black vamp named Valentina whose melanin protects her from the sun and “who finds it difficult to suppress her bloodlust when a new woman is brought around her estranged twin daughters.”

The pair of filmmakers and their film were selected by a jury comprised of actor/producer Rachel Weisz, director/producer Mira Nair, and producer Paula Weinstein (not related to that Weinstein) out of five projects pitched during the programs intense three-day workshop.

“At Tribeca we are always looking for ways to empower and support women in our industry. It’s not enough to talk about what needs to be done. We need to actually do it,” said Paula Weinstein, EVP of
Tribeca Enterprises
