video premiere: n.c. rapper zensofly takes over hip-hop in head-bopping new video, and she’s just “getting started”
Raleigh, NC-based indie singer/rapper ZenSoFly first made waves with her six-song debut EP Little Miss Perfect in 2016, but that was just the beginning of her reign. Her latest single, aptly titled “Getting Started”, shows a clear evolution in the clever lyricist’s musicianship, an ode to new beginnings and carefree living with a catchy-as-hell hook reminiscent of Azealia Banks’ “212”.
The video to “Getting Started” is even more fun, a vibrant color-blast of head-bopping good times and dancers in cropped “Love Wins” shirts celebrating freedom.
“It’s never too late to be yourself regardless of what people say or think,” explains ZenSoFly. “This song is a dedication to people who are breaking free of confines, especially those who struggle with gender identity and sexuality. Change can be scary and uncomfortable, but it shouldn’t stop you. My goal was to make this video very happy and full of youth to remind us all that there’s so much life and joy in new beginnings.”
“Getting Started” is from the rapper’s forthcoming SUNFLOWERS EP, set to be released on Friday, September 29th. Zen will also be playing the mainstage at Hopscotch Music Festival next Friday, September 9th – alongside headliners Run the Jewels, Solange, Kaytranada, NoName, Madame Ghandi and others.
