new basquiat documentary shines a light on the late legend’s pre-fame years
A new film by Sara Driver, a close friend to Jean-Michel Basquiat, is making waves after premiering at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month for illuminating the late New York art pioneer’s early life. Carried by interviews with other artists who emerged from the art scene like Nan Goldin, Jim Jarmusch, James Nares, Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quinones and Luc Sante, Boom For Real: The Late Teenage Years Of Jean-Michel Basquiat combines these anecdotes with footage from the artist’s short life. The enigmatic Basquiat died when he was only 27.
