lena waithe is the first (queer) black woman to win an emmy for comedy writing
Last night’s Emmy awards saw some major wins for Black Hollywood, including Master of None writer Lena Waithe who took home one of the top prizes for her work on the Aziz Ansari Netflix series. The duo won for Best Comedy Writing on a series and the win marked the first time in history where a black woman has received the honor.
In her moving speech, Waithe gave a super-touching shot out to the LGBTQIA family reminding everyone that “The things that make us different — those are our superpowers.”
