tyler, the creator conquers stop motion on his new viceland series ‘nuts & bolts’
Adding to his already overflowing resume, Tyler, The Creator is feeding his project addiction in style as he tackles yet another medium: stop motion.
On the premiere episode of his new Viceland series Nuts & Bolts–yes, he also has a Viceland series–Tyler sets out to develop his untapped skill. Meeting with legends of the field like Henry Selik (James and the Giant Peach) and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (Robot Chicken), the artist proves why he is a poster child for taking notes and running with them.
Learning the intricacies of the art–from storyboarding, to animation, to puppetry and everything in between–the rapper works to meld his loopy and wild aesthetic with a new platform, and the result is borderline magic.
“The eye candy is what’s really important to me, and then I write dialogue from there,” Tyler explains.
With whimsical color and the familiar claymation texture/pace, Mr. Creator makes the ultimate creation, bending the boundaries of storyline and hopscotching between realities to serve up an uber engaging visual meal.
Having dipped his toes in animation before with the upcoming release of Adult Swim series The Jellies, his hold on the screen is about to get a lot stronger. Teaming up with his usual gang, Tyler is taking entrepreneurship to the next level, gifting us with golden entertainment, and setting an example for young black creatives everywhere.
