movie adaptation of comic series where only black people have superpowers is on the way!
Following up on HBO’s controversial announcement of the alt-history show Confederate, which imagines if the South won the Civil War, and Amazon’s unveiling of Black America, which takes place in an alternate timeline where Black people took their own country as reparations, Studio 8 plans to do them both one better by optioning the feature film Black, an adaptation of a comic series by Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith that follows a world in which only Black people have superpowers.
As Deadline reports, the comic series starts off with Black teen Kareem Jenkins surviving a police shooting in Brooklyn, and discovering his powers in the process. He then goes on to connect with others who also have superpowers, and discovers a government conspiracy to keep the information suppressed.
Black has just wrapped its initial six-issue run. We can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
