grace jones symposium to take place at university of edinburgh

The legacy and influence of icon Grace Jones are going to be formally explored at a fancy-dancey symposium at the University of Edinburgh. The multi-day event will feature a wide range of intersectional analysis of Jones’ boundary-defying ‘otherness’ as a performer and artist, opening with an opening keynote address by UCLA’s Uri McMillan on ‘Being Otherwise, Being Grace Jones: Performing on the Outer Limits’. Other Day 1 speakers will deconstruct gender and racial performativity, Jones’ physical performances from a dancer’s perspective, her influence on African American female hip-hop, and her legacy as a fashion icon. And that’s just Day 1, hunny.

Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami’ director Sophie Fiennes will also be a keynote speaker.
