new music: alt-soul diva jungle leez brings worlds together on ‘supanova’

Born in Cameroon and raised in London, alt soul diva Jungle Leez’s latest album SUPANOVA marries disparate worlds. Songs blend elements of R&B and neo soul with dubstep (“Top Of The World”), reggae (“Revolution”), and French chanson (“Envol”). Jungle Leez and producer Profetesa Beats give each song a unique sound and flavor, but Jungle Leez’s unique voice ties it all together. Though the album teases mutated samples and forward-looking synths, it’s the songs where Jungle Leez looks back to that past where she tends to shine brightest. The classic ballads “Something Beautiful” and “Envol” bring out a deep expressiveness in her voice, while “Revolution” draws on Ini Kamoze’s classic “World A Music” for a statement of worldwide solidarity.
