hbcu announces betsy devos as commencement speaker! lmao

May 2, 2017

For some reason, Bethune-Cookman University, a historically black university, has invited the new Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, a woman whose efforts have further marginalized and disadvantaged black and poor students in Michigan, to be their 2017 commencement speaker. For the irony, perchance? Or an opportunity to show DeVos some black excellence being honored? Or maybe as an excuse to school Secretary DeVos on the actual history of HBCUs? One can hope.

Since the bizarr-o announcement, alumni and others have spoken out against Bethune-Cookman University’s decision. Their commencement will take place next week. Yikes.
