prince’s band the revolution begins national tribute tour celebrating the late star
Just before the anniversary of the star’s death, Prince’s former band The Revolution announced a national tour in celebration of the “Purple Rain” singer. This comes after the overwhelming reaction to the surprise announcement of the band’s reunion in February.
The Revolution was formed in 1979 by Prince, drummer Bobby Z, and keyboardist Matt Fink. The next four years saw several iterations of the band, until Prince finally settled on a band that could enact his musical vision. Members of the legendary final group included Lisa Coleman on keyboards/piano, Wendy Melvoin on guitar and Brown Mark on bass. They earned multiple #1 hits, two Grammys and an Oscar for Best Original Score for “Purple Rain”.
“Prince said that music is medicine,” Bobby explained, “People need it, and we need it.… In honor of him, we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”
The tour will include a special performance at Paisley Park, where the star was found dead last year. The current itinerary ends on July 17th, but after already adding second shows in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco in additional to the original six dates, more shows are expected to be announced soon!
