new jersey teenager gets accepted into all 8 ivy league schools

April 5, 2017

It’s my favorite time of the year! Besides the fact that the horrid winter is almost behind us (and it’s always a horrid winter in New York City), spring also blesses me with the cutest pictures of Black kids on their prom nights and elated announcements about where they are going to school (or whatever other exciting decisions that they make). And this acceptance season has already started with a bang.

Earlier today, CNN reported on a New Jersey teenager who was accepted into eight Ivy League schools. Ifeoma White-Thorpe told CNN that she was shaking when she got the eighth letter. “I was like, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, like this might be eight out of eight and I clicked it and it said ‘Congratulations’ and I was like oh my goodness!”

A senior and student government president at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway, White-Thorpe will choose between Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Dartmouth and Brown, studying biology for a career in global health.

Congratulations to her, and to all the other Black kids accepted into just one school, state schools, HBCUs, community colleges, or who have decided to begin their adult life outside of the academy altogether! You’re all MVPs, and please keep posting about your joys and achievements!
