new music: south african hip-hop visionary spoek mathambo finds love in zulu folk music on ‘i found you’ #soundcheck

March 2, 2017

South African hip-hop pioneer Spoek Mathambo commented “when I say ‘I Found You,’ I feel like I’m talking to myself.” in an interview with The Fader, and it shows. He’s frequently described his new music as what he’d been searching for all along. Drawing heavily from Makandi traditions, the bass-driven single is infectious. It perfectly encapsulates that moment after a breakup when you realize losing someone else matters way less than finding yourself. If this is what it sounds like when Spoek Mathambo finds himself, the rest of his forthcoming Mzansi Beat Code is really gonna be something.
