premiere: toronto soul songstress tik▲ poetically protesting police brutality in “all day, all night”
Black artists are coming full force with protest music in 2017 and TiK▲ lends her voice to the struggle in this retrospective track “All Day, All Night”. The Toronto soul singer-songwriter TiK▲ is aiming to champion the excellence of Black womanhood as a central theme in her music. Since releasing her 2nd EP “Carry On” to mass critical acclaim in the fall of 2016, TiK▲ has returned “All Day, All Night,” a single written from the perspective of a Black girl struggling to balance her life after the death of her father slain by the hands of the police. Inspired by Erica Garner’s tenacity and drive, the song is a poignant response to police brutality and the weight carried by Black women in times like these. Featuring upbeat, electronica inspired beats by up and coming Toronto production duo HMLT, this jam is just as likely to make you move as it is to make you think.
TiK▲ told us: “I wanted to touch on the fact that no matter what is happening within our world, Black Womyn do not get the permission to heal before enduring triggering + racialized experiences that fuel ongoing trauma. I hope this song inspires the Indigos of the world to continue creating, fighting, speaking, and loving one another.” She also had this to say to Erica Garner and women the world over: “Keep fighting, Sis. We got you.” Stream “All Day, All Night” by TiK▲ below.
