côte d’ivoire artist’s self-portraits are exquisite pieces of personal discovery through her hair
With Solange’s braid making waves and the imagery in Beyonce’s Grammy performance exuding deity, it’s no wonder that Black women and their hair are at the forefront of visual art and its many manifestations in popular culture. Côte d’Ivoire visual artist @laetitiaky has been using her hair, as well as a keen ability to use color, to create elegant self-portraits. Her hair is wound with flowers, into shapes and words, and reaches toward the heavens from which it came. Although we don’t know much about her origins, it’s clear that the sky is the limit to where she can go if she continues to make such exquisite creations. Take a look at a selection of her work below and follow her on Instagram to see more!
