photographer jason bassett celebrates the beauty of full lips in ‘tulips’ photo series
‘Tulips’ is an avant-garde photo series by photographer Jason Bassett that celebrates the beauty and specialness of full-lips. Larger lips are one of those physical characteristics that are stereotypically thought of as unique to black women where they are either hyper-sexualized or ridiculed. That is until this attribute is seen on non-black and white women. Then, they become a valued commodity. That’s a whole other article though…These photos from the photog’s ‘Tulips’ series are an avant-garde ode to the beauty of full lips on black women “from the perspective of how cosmetic ads never celebrate full, beautiful lips [on Women of Color],” says Bassett.
