bookstore handed free copies of ‘we should all be feminists’ out on inauguration day

January 23, 2017

Should we all be feminists? Hell yes, we should. The equality of the sexes (and more importantly the acknowledgement, acceptance and equality of all genders) is one of the most important issues of the day, and “We Should All Be Feminists” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a great starting point for those trying to delve into feminist theory. Her speech of the same name was even sampled in Beyonce’s epic anthem “Flawless.” Although you could make the argument that Trump’s inauguration was the biggest, most extravagant display of anti-feminist sentiment in US history, that didn’t stop feminists nationwide from creatively resisting the patriarchy. Broadway Books, a Portland, Oregon bookstore, gave out copies of ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ for the free.99 on inauguration day in protest of the transfer of power. Nothing quite says “let’s fight the power” like 200 plus pages of why everyone should want equality for everyone. We’re hoping this small gesture from a small bookstore can make a big impact in the lives of its patrons. Right on Broadway Books!
