angela davis, alice walker, solange to appear at peace ball during inauguration week
Resistance can be fun, right? In protest of Trump’s inauguration, DC restaurant and cultural touchstone Busboys & Poets have organized an alternative celebration to the white supremacist installment of this sham of a president the night before inauguration entitled “Peace Ball,” hosted at the new National Museum of African American History. With Solange Angela Davis, Danny Glover, Alice Walker, Van Jones, Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler, and jazz virtuoso Esperanza Spalding on the lineup, it’s clear that this will be a night to remember before a day we all wish we could forget. In their press release, Busboys and Poets’ press release quotes Howard Zinn saying, “To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.” And it is this that will keep us hopeful and fighting in the days to come.
