new music: kamara thomas delivers passionate timeless folk on ‘live from the listening room at mercury studio’ #soundcheck

The best folk music is best experienced live. The storytelling and passion rarely survives the process of being processed, edited, and packaged. On Kamara Thomas’ latest EP LIVE from The Listening Room at Mercury Studio, the singer-songwriter presents herself simply and straightforwardly. This isn’t the kind of modern folk that seems to be in a race to fade into the background the best. Songs like “Living From the Heart” showcase Thomas’ passion and vocal skill, while on “Tularosa” she delivers a timeless folk song about conflict between the Apache and Comanche that could pass for a traditional folk standard. Though Live from The Listening Room makes a case that the best way to experience Kamara Thomas’ music live, this EP is the next best thing.
