feature: singer/songwriter and medicine woman gina breedlove to be first ever sound healer ever at afropunk brooklyn

August 23, 2016

Imagine a world where sound not only fuels and influences, but heals. Actually, there’s no need to imagine it, because it exists right here, right now.The ancient practice of sound healing is the intentional use of Sound to move stuck energy through the body- and with the emersion of Gina Breedlove– with Vibration of Grace– the practice is given a fresh, soulful voice.

Born and raised in Brooklyn- now partially based in Oakland, CA- Ms. Breedlove uses her powerful voice to transcend the boundaries of skin and preconceived notion; permeating the senses with the vibrations of sound. With a genuine love and appreciation for the craft and all who open themselves to receiving it, her presence alone creates a potent space of revelation and guidance.

In her own words: “I began using Sound to create safe space in my body when I was 6 years old, my response to childhood trauma. I realized I could share this Medicine with other people 10 years ago. There are many ways to do this powerful work; Singing Bells, Drums, Didgeridoo, etc- all very effective tools. I use my Voice, which carries embodied consciousness, rooted in Love and guided by Spirit”

A full-on professional, her work ranges from an intimate one-on one session, to groups as large as 75, and in 2015, Breedlove brought her Sound Healing medicine to two Spike Lee joints- on the sets of ‘Living Da Dream’-NBA 2K16, and ‘Chi-Raq’. While in Chicago for the film, she held circles with the cast- working with the organization Purpose over Pain, for parent’s who’ve lost children to the insurmountable gun violence in Chicago.

Using her powers in the most generous of ways Ms. Breedlove’s contribution to society is a personally special one to me… because she also happens to be my mom! From a biased perspective, her art is one worthy of the utmost respect and attention- and from an unbiased view, her enticing nature should intrigue all to take a second look.

Set to be the first Sound Healer to ever have a place at AFROPUNK, look out for her this month at the Brooklyn festival, and as an added bonus, use the promo code GRACE to receive 10% off your AP ticket when you purchase a 20 minute session of Sound Healing for $20.
