activist, educator, and civil rights icon angela davis set to executive produce upcoming biopic

As reported by Variety, activist, educator, and Civil Rights icon Angela Davis set to executive produce biopic framed around her 1974 autobiography. The rights for the controversial and still much sought-after book were acquired by Codeblack Films, a division of Lionsgate, whose missions is to serve the underrepresented global black community with diversified content. The so-far untitled film will be produced by Nina Yang Bongiovi (”Fruitvale Station“ and ”Dope“), Sidra Smith (”Free Angela and All Political Prisoners“) and Codeblack Enterprises CEO, Jeff Clanagan. Davis’s niece, Eisa Davis, will also serve as a co-executive producer and screenwriter.
