video premiere: british soul singer desi valentine shares dazzling live music video “asylum” with us

March 2, 2016

British soul vocalist Desi Valentine shares his brand new, live music video “Asylum” with us! “Asylum” is a dazzling, lively track that puts a modern twist on retro soul and blues. Surprisingly, the song was inspired by a much darker theme than the vivacious melody might suggest. “The Writing process for Asylum was very serendipitous as I was going through a huge fall out with a friend at the time. This friend had been pathologically lying and we were completely unaware of it. He was so convincing and believed his own lies so much that he made me question my own mind over and over again[…]here is a haunting atmosphere deep rooted in the heart of this song and it got me thinking how eerie it would be to have everyone around you telling you that what you’re seeing and saying isn’t real. Mental health is such a taboo subject, I wanted to write something from the perspective of someone going through losing their grip on reality. I guess we will never know if the person in question is actually sane or not. This song is one of my favorite songs to perform live. When I play this song with the horn section and full band the crowd goes wild every time,” Valentine tells AFROPUNK.
