video premiere: awate’s trippy, turkish-produced track “cure” gets otherwordly video

London-based, Saudi-born, Eritrean rapper Awate’s single, “Cure”, is a lush, almost dizzying track about everything from the London riots to school trouble, as viewed through a diasporan lens. On that same beat, “Cure” was created during the four court cases Awate was fighting (and eventually beat) against the police. The brand new video for this Turkish-produced track is equally hypnotic with an otherworldly luminescence in shades of purple and indigo lighting the otherwise shadowy sequence. “Cure” is the counterpart to last year’s “Fever” and the second single from Awate’s forthcoming EP “Shine Ancient”. He’s often been featured on the UK’s BBC 1Xtra and KISS radio stations.
Awate will be performing at Birthdays in Dalston, London tonight with Reveal at the launch of Shay D’s new album, “A Figure of Speech”.
