new music: detroit singer-songwriter mayaeni covers the pharcyde and label mates jay electronica and j.cole

March 7, 2016

Detroit hip-hop singer-songwriter Mayaeni puts a lo-fi spin on label mates Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C”, focusing heavily on the timeless Billy Stewart sample, J.Cole’s “G.O.M.D”, and also The Pharcyde’s “Passin’ Me By” for her “Basement Kid” mixtape. “This is what I’ve created alone in a dark basement and I wanted to bring it to light. Basement kid is a homage to my past. It’s for the true lovers of underground music,” Mayaeni writes on SoundCloud. Mayaeni is playing Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, Mar. 9 if you’re in town.
