feature: revolution of hope’s the roxbury youth orchestra is changing the lives of kids from boston’s roxbury neighborhood

March 8, 2016

The non-profit organization Revolution of Hope’s The Roxbury Youth Orchestra is changing the lives of kids from Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood. The community-based program allows students to receive music lessons up to five days a week, for three hours after school, to learn three of the toughest instruments: the violin, viola, and the cello. In the past three-years, the program has seen an increase in academic performance, self-esteem, the creation of positive peer relationships, and an increased emphasis on focus and determination.

The Roxbury Youth Orchestra’s mission is to provide students with the aforementioned skills and opportunities, and to provide the tools for artistic excellence, create access to the arts and other fields, and to build a pathway out of poverty for their local students. Revolution of Hope is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to encourage others to help sustain and elevate The Roxbury Youth Orchestra. The campaign, which runs for 1 more week, aims to raise $15,000 to hire more teachers and to be able to have their students perform in New York City. You can learn all about the program, what they’ve been able to achieve, and their fundraising campaign right here.
