feature: portugal-based angolan dércio tomás ferreira decolonizes minds through youtube channel
Dércio Tomás Ferreira, an Angolan YouTuber living in Portugal, has a lot to say. He started a channel on YouTube to talk issues like blackness, religion, culture and society from the perspective of an African boy living in Europe, but also in context with the black experience in the Americas. These types of complex connections makes his channel be more focused on provoking questions rather than giving answers, as he says:
“My purpose is to deconstruct black minds so that together we can teach white people the privileges they have but don’t see. Other than that, I also want to break every discriminatory attitude. So I want people to know how to identify injustice, negative stereotyping and stigmatization. But I do not know everything, so I’m also using this as a learning phase. I created the channel so that issues could be better heard and in more spaces. And I want my channel to grow because I also love audiovisual and that is what I am studying in the college.”
