feature: check out artist lakendra huckaby’s dope illustrations and sketches of badass black femmes

February 8, 2016

A little afro-futurism, a little anime, lots of black girl magic. Currently based in Durham, NC LaKendra Huckaby, a graphic/web designer and illustration artist harnesses her life experiences and emotion to gain inspiration for the work that she creates. Many of her drawings are of femme characters and re-imagined portraits of other female artists and performers she admires, like Zendaya as Kida from Atlantis and Medusa-esque portrait of Lion Babe’s Jillian Hervey. Check out some of my favorites and follow LaKendra on Instagram to see even more!.

IG caption: “Dedicated to all those people who told me I wasn’t allowed to like anime because I was a female and I was black.”
