video premiere: badass nerdcore mc sammus in new video “1080p” #soundcheck
Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo, who goes by the stage name Sammus, is a producer and MC from Ithaca, New York known for her empowering take on the video game character Samus. Sammus is also known for discussing issues such as police brutality and identity.
“1080p” is the first single off Sammus’ forthcoming EP dropping in March 2016 (NuBlack Music Group). The song finds Sammus speaking openly about the highs and lows that have shaped her life since dropping her last album in 2014.
The video, directed by Vince Lundi, follows Sammus as she navigates these highs and lows in her daily life. Ultimately, this revealing song is an important testament to the power of seeking help and prioritizing one’s mental health above all.
