new music: waking astronomer’s ‘bottles’ is gloriously spaced out #soundcheck

Over palpably thick synths and inventive percussion, the collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Alexa Lima, singer (and Marvel / DC comics illustrator) Afua Richardson, and producer Deku pushes the limits of the musicality of ambiance. The music appears minimal at first glance, a loping looping bassline, and spacey synth hits, but it hides an elaborate complexity, as ethereal echoes refract beneath Afua Richardson’s haunting melodies. The song is infectious, and impressively emotional for something so intricately produced.
