afropunk premiere: mescalines ‘pássaro vermelho ii’
Check out new music from garage/rock and roll band Mescalines Duo. The twosome come out of São Paulo where they are undoubtably inspired by the hodge-podge of afro-centric sounds from the region. Their new single, ‘Pássaro Vermelho III’ has a roots-y, blues-y, low-fi grime that borrows from the sounds of the Mississippi delta, garage rock music of Latina America, and African beats.
“Mescalines Duo organically explores African music that has sailed seas and reached Latin America, connecting ritual jazz of Sahara nomads with Mississippi blues culture, producing some kind of shamanic music that’s powered by strong riffs. Mescalines Duo consists of guitarist Jack Rubens (of Mustache and Apaches) and, me, the drummer,” Onofre tells AFROPUNK
‘Pássaro Vermelho II’ is the third single from their self-titled EP. Listen below!
