new music: stream the self titled debut from classic soul duo the jack moves #soundcheck
Lovers of classic soul rejoice! The debut LP from Newark duo The Jack Moves is a burst of retro goodness. Splitting the difference between mid-60’s Motown and Quincy Jones produced Michael Jackson, Zee Desmondes and Teddy Powell make the continuing case for a second golden age of soul.

Anchored by cuts like the smartly arranged “Seasons Change,” and the beautiful “Lovers Masquerade,” The Jack Moves is an ode an era when ballads were king. Desmondes’ stratospheric falsetto soars on top of silky string arrangements while Powell keeps it focused with his four-to-the-floor grooves. That the record doesn’t come with any kind of scented candle is clearly an oversight on the part of the producers.
