afropunk premiere: uk songstress phoenix martins celebrates home & relationships with brand new video – ‘snakehips’
Today we’re premiering the new video from UK songstress Phoenix Martins – ‘Snakehips’. The London based musician (who cites Fela Kuti, Gene Kelly and Nina Simone as some of her biggest influences) came up with the concept and co-directed it with Eve Mahoney. Martins tells us: “The song [which is taken from her ‘Retrospective’ EP] is about being centred within a loving relationship that grows the both of you! The deeper, I am into those that I love and care for, the closer I too become to myself. This works both emotionally with people and song as it does environments and vision, the video was shot in my hometown of Hackney and I love where I grew up as it is so much of who I am now. No matter how far I journey and transcend, I always remember that home is where the heart is!” Watch it below.
