October 12, 2015

Check out this powerful art series from NY based painter JLS (aka Johnnie Lee Smith). Entitled ‘Leadership’, the ongoing series began in 2013. JLS tells us: “This project [also a sweatshirt series] was created to honor Black Leaders who fought in the struggle for freedom & equality. The series so far includes: Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Angela Davis & President Obama. The series will continue to grow and I plan to add more Leaders each year. I believe the ‘Leadership’ series can be inspiring and promotes positive images of Black culture.” Explore below. FYI JLS ┬átells us that he is also working on a natural hair series.
