video premiere: paris-based producer jalal’s new track gets the visual treatment – ‘the preacher’ (feat. deeway x viane x akuji)

September 28, 2015

Today we’re premiering the visual for Paris-based producer Jalal’s new collaboration with singer-songwirter Deeway, ‘The Preacher (feat. Viane and Akuji)’. Deeway tells us: “The vision of this song is first of all an appeal of loving yourself in general. Respect yourself if you want to be respected, build your own rules within this system (particularly Black woman who are dealing with inferiority complexes). I use the term “preacher” to say everybody is a preacher… the difference is in what we choose to preach. This title has nothing related to christianism or evangelism.” Deeway adds,”When I wrote this song, I felt the need to create an anthem for black people, it was during all the police killings in america. Even though I live in Paris, I was affected by those events, and i knew that it wasn’t new… An innocent black man killed by cops is 21 times more than white man. There is no racism on this song or hate for white people, but I’m trying to bring a deep message of love and consciousness for black people. “Umi says” By Mos def aka Yasiin Bey and the legendary Fela kuti were the main source of inspiration of this song. “you’re not weak, you ‘re not a slave, you’re not ugly like they say….. they control, put it in a grave…..””
