feature: ‘red origins’ – the new anime series that explores african oral folklore with magic and futurism

August 20, 2015

Check out ‘Red Origins’, the new African anime series. The series is a collaborative project of brothers Onyi and Obi Udeh (founders of Kolanut Productions – an up and coming independent animation, comic, and game productions company focused on diversity) and centers on African magical futurism. An exploration of African Oral Folklore, ‘Red Origins’ follows Obi, Temi and John as they “mystically get transported to Neo Africa in 2070”. Its creators state: “Upon arrival, they [Obi, Temi and John] mistakenly break a bronze taboo and are forced to join a Peacekeeping Magical Juju Force. In order to return home they must help stop a brewing war between Ancestral Africa and Neo Technological Africa. It is spell casting magical juju daggers versus energy wave cannons; which side will you take? Whatever side you take get ready for a clash that will surely shake the entire world”. The brothers are currently crowdfunding to finish the pilot episode, which you can support HERE via Kickstarter. Explore below.
