new music: experimental brazillian artist joão xavi inspires on debut ‘the cosmic race’ #soundcheck

July 9, 2015

“What could you be if you had no fear?” Brazilian artist João Xavi asks on “O que você seria se não tivesse medo?” from his latest, ‘The Cosmic Race’. The record was created as a statement on universality; and to that end, it blends Brazilian styles with hip-hop, experimental electronica, and indie rock. His lyrics aim to inspire and empower (“I believe that people are made to shine” on the title track), while his production is aimed at the dance floor. It’s a powerful mix, most successful when the acoustic guitars take over the mix as on the infectious ‘Atlântico’, and album highlight ‘Ou me respeita, ou me relaxa’. Listen below.
