Check out the work of Brazilian photographer and artist Shai Andrade. Based in Salvador, Bahia, her photography centers on the black body. Shai tells us: “My work focuses on transmitting the poetics of the black body. Black people (an embodiment of Africa and ancestry) speak and breathe, but are often ignored – let alone viewed beyond the stereotypes imposed by the Eurocentric culture that dominates Brazil and this world. My images are about poetry, empowerment, belonging, and ancestry.” Explore below!
