new music: ‘fyfya woto’ – the debut ep from ghanaian electro soul singer jojo abot
Listen to the debut EP from Brooklyn based Ghanaian Electro soul singer Jojo Abot – ‘Fyfya Woto’. Produced in Denmark, the 4-track offering explores the themes of family, tradition, love, freedom, and slavery; and its title is a rewrite of Abot’s grandmother’s name, meaning “new discovery”. Regarding the EP, the singer says: “We often shy away from our past because it is too dark but maybe by changing the narrative and telling our stories ourselves we can better heal and evolve.” Listen to her story below (featuring both English and the Ghanaian dialect Ewe).
