video premiere: xuxa santamaria’s video for new single ‘la red’ – art dance punk from puerto rico
Today we’re premiering the new video from bilingual punk-dance group Xuxa Santamaria – made up of Puerto Rican mixed media artist Sofía Córdova and New York sound artist Matt Kirkland. The visual is for the California based duo’s new single ‘La Red’ (translated in English as ‘The Net’ or ‘The Web’), and the song is about being caught in the web of a power structure (money, debt, racism, colonialism, sexism). For the video, the group say: “We wanted to do a single take mashup of a durational performance with several aesthetic nods to: Surrealist photography (s/o to Man Ray and Bataille’s L’informe), spirit photography (ectoplasm!) and low budget 80s goth music videos.” Check it out below!
