Check out the work of British Berlin based sculptor and artist Satch Hoyt. Born to a Jamaican father and English mother, Hoyt uses his work (and a wide range of materials) to explore the hybridity of the African diaspora – and more specifically his own life as a “hybrid statement”, a biracial man born in 1950’s Britain. When asked recently about the main concept behind his artwork, Hoyt stated: “The dominant concept tends to pivot around issues pertaining to the African diaspora and all of its glorious hybridity. This is a vast culture with a myriad of stories to be mined and told. I traverse this wide terrain from pre middle passage to current issues, often utilizing the subjects of sport and music as metaphors.o deal with his own hybridity.” Take a look at his striking pieces below.
