At the upcoming Academy Awards, now dubbed “The Whitest Oscars Since 1998”, no actor of color will be recognised for their work last year (after not one was nominated in any of the acting categories). This lack of recognition has got many discussing race in Hollywood. Time and time again actors of color are forced to play stereotypes and are continually seen as components in the story, yet never the lead.
