afropunk premiere: get an exclusive look at cakes da killa’s deluxe reissue of ‘hunger pangs’ with ‘get 2 werk (club kween)’ #soundcheck

Over the past year, Cakes Da Killa has firmly established himself as one of the most dynamic voices in hip hop. With a ferocity somewhere between ’77 punk and classic underground NYC hip hop, the MC’s lean Hunger Pangs mixtape was one of 2014’s best. Whether rapping about fucking up dudes or fucking dudes, over 10 tight tracks, Cakes never lets up. Hunger Pangs is now being reissued as a two volume set: a remastered version of the original, and a second 15 track set of remixes including a badass dirty remix of ‘Get 2 Werk’ from Uniiqu3.

Cakes explains: “Well the track is really all about doubters trying to discredit your hustle or success out of pure envy. At the end of the day, if you spent half of that energy you put into hating me into building yourself you may be able to accomplish half of what I’m doing, hence the “don’t stop, get to work” mantra. I linked up with Uniiqu3 to give it that dirty Jerz knock that I grew up loving. I knew she would take it to another direction for the clubs. Rye Rye has been one of my personal favorites since she first came out and to get her on a track was a blessing – shout out to Matthew for that!”

The Deluxe version of Hunger Pangs comes with a deluxe package including a T-shirt, sticker, and a pink limited edition tampon-shaped USB stick. Because it couldn’t come in any other format. Cakes and Uniiqu3 are heading on the road next month. More dates will be announced soon.
