new music: all female feminist punk band big joanie release album ’sistah punk’

Straight from London, UK, come punk rock trio Big Joanie. The feminist punk band formed late last year and have been gigging ever since; describing themselves as ‘The Ronettes filtered through 80s DIY’. The band say that they want to “create a continuum for black punks by presenting a strong, powerful vision of black womanhood and telling black kids about black punks who came before us.” With Chardine on drums & vocals, Kiera on bass & vocals, and Steph on guitar & vocals, the band have now recordeed their EP ‘Sistah Punk’; and it’s now available to listen to (click on the image, below).
