Complex reports: “Adult Swim has announced that it is putting a new live-action series titled Black Jesus into production from the creator of The Boondocks, Aaron McGruder. The series will star Gerald “Slink” Johnson (Grand Theft Auto V) as the titular Black Jesus, with Charlie Murphy (Are We There Yet), Corey Holcomb (The Cleveland Show), and John Witherspoon (The Boondocks,The First Family) providing supporting roles. Here is a description of the series, according to a press release from the network:
The show finds Jesus living in present day Compton, CA on a daily mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood with the help of his small but loyal group of downtrodden followers.
Black Jesus has already begun production in Los Angeles, and it is slated to debut later this year. We’ll have more information on the series as it becomes available.”
