lo-fi fans! check out these raw live videos from young singer-songwriter darius ivey. #soundcheck

As much as I’m always a sucker for dense production and complex arrangements, sometimes the best arrangement is no arrangement at all. That’s the case with these videos from LA based singer-songwriter Darius Ivey. Haunting and minimal, and overflowing with an emotional honesty, the 18-year-old has a craft for storytelling well beyond his years.

“Alaska” sustains 2 chords over 7 minutes, building slowly from delicate finger picking to bashed strings. His other live video, “Repetition” showcases that same low-key charm as 90’s lo-fi darlings like The Mountain Goats and (early) Folk Implosion.

The songs are available for download in a more polished version from Darius Ivey’s Soundcloud page, but to me, there’s something raw and real about these live videos that stands out. And how can you not love a track where he fades out by walking away from the camera?
