free download of the oakland hardcore band replica’s 2013 eps. their rage is timeless. #soundcheck

December 20, 2013

Oakland is increasingly becoming the home of adventurous genre mashing underground music, but that doesn’t mean the Bay Area can’t also still hold down the old school hardcore. Across a handful of 7”, the hard-as-fuck Replica makes the kind of hardcore punk that doesn’t belong to any era. This kind of rage is timeless.

They put out 2 seven inches this year; a self-titled EP and a re-release of their 2012 demo. Few tracks make it past a minute. Drummer B’s beats often verge on industrial beneath Dharma’s open throated scream. The guitar riffs would make Lyle Preslar proud, but their music carefully avoids the nostalgia of trying to recapture the American Hardcore era. Definitely check out “Strings” from their Self-Titled, and their cover of the Brazillian post-punk band Mercenárias “Inimigo” from their Demo 7”.

All their tracks are a free download through Bandcamp, but this is the kind of shit you really need to get on 7” to experience right.
