visual artist mattahan: humans, beasts & i… oh my!

November 27, 2013

The height of Black giants larger than life, surpassing clouds while odd looking beasts and fish roam the earth is nothing far from the imagination; especially when you have the gift to be able to recreate the exact image of some sort of surreal, spectacle in your mind. The beautiful part about these spectacles shared is that they’re ambiguous- open for one’s own interpretation. So who’s to say that artist Mattahan’s (born Paul Davey) illustrations are not a force to be reckoned with?

Conventional standards of art would have you to believe that every image must mirror reality, but it’s obvious that isn’t the case when it comes to illustrator, Mattahan’s phenomena.

The irregular pairings of creatures and humans seem to create a film of wonder; the true meaning of the picture is ultimately up to the viewer. I see nothing wrong in dabbling in your imagination’s vault. Afterall, you’re the Creator!
