time to chill the fuck out with a free download of the debut ep from toronto rnb / triphop singer allie. #soundcheck

November 29, 2013

Need a break from the stress of the omnipresent social obligation to conspicuously consume consume consume right about now? Toronto singer Allie brings the mellow with her unique abstract RnB. Strange Creatures blends RnB with glitch and triphop for atmosphere rich and bass heavy grooves. The ambiance is palpable. The thick layers of effects, piled on smooth discordant keys, are anchored by minimal beats. And topping the whole thing is Allie’s smooth but still commanding voice.

On the standout “Rlctnt Hstlr” the young singer sounds confident and mature in a way that artists rarely sound on their debut EPs. If her starting point is this fully formed and cohesive, who knows where she could go next.

Her EP is available through the Bandcamp player above on a pay-what-you-can basis, so whether you’re rebelling against the Black Friday awfulness by buying nothing or whether you’re doing it by only buying from individuals and small businesses, Allie’s got you covered.
