sampha’s version far from too much

November 11, 2013

I’m genuinely amped that British soul singer Sampha has released his solo version of his Drake collab “Too Much”. For me, it was one of the standout tracks of Nothing Was The Same. On it, we heard Drake spill his soul about his family hardships and the woes of fame. This is actually Sampha’s song. Drizzy nabbed the singers vocals from the demo version (hence the slightly rustic quality which sensitive ears will be able to pick up).

Sampha’s version is a lot softer. His melodious, brooding vocals dance over unobtrusive piano keys. It is a complete contrast from the busy, rapper’s remorse version we’ve all been hearing. Very soothing. Never overdone.

If you dig it, the entire version will be available on November 12 digitally. You’ll have to wait until January for the vinyl edition I’m afraid.
